Habiganj man kills father over property, dumps body into river
A 20-year-old man killed his father and then dumped his body into a river in Azmiriganj upazila of Habiganj, police said.
Kawshar Ahmed committed the murder with the help of his associates in order to grab property, Mohammad Ullah, superintendent of Habiganj police, told journalists this morning.
The deceased was identified as Omar Ali. His son Kawshar, the mastermind behind the killing and a first-year student of MC College, is on the run, the SP said.
Police arrested two in this connection from Jakiganj on February 18. They are: Monir Ahmed, 30, and his mother-in-law Sufia Khatun, 55, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.
The arrestees confessed to the crimes before the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Ahmed Talukder in Azmiriganj under section 164 last night.
In the confession, Monir and Sufia said they killed Omar Ali because of Kawshar's desire to grab his father's property.
Kawshar gave Monir and several others Tk 5,000 to take Omar Ali to a forest in Kalaiura village of Bianibazar upazila and kill him.
After the murder, they dumped the victim's body in a nearby river and hid his severed head in another place, the SP said quoting Monir.
Earlier, Kawshar had filed a general diary with Ajmiriganj Police Station on January 6 saying his father Omar Ali had been missing since December 31 last year, SP Mohammad Ullah said quoting the arrestees' confessions.
Bianibazar police recovered the remains of the body from the Sonai River on January 21.
Meanwhile, police had investigated the matter and found that since the GD was filed, Kawshar had been selling Omar Ali's cattle and was trying to sell his properties, which raised suspicion against him.
On January 23, victim's brother Naeb Ali filed a case against Kawshar Ahmed, 20, his mother Pipi Begum, 55, sister Mamata Begum, 30, brother Al Amin, 25 and cousin Sadek Mia, 45.
Later, investigations revealed that Kawshar and Monir took Omar Ali to Bianibazar and killed him near a jungle.
Police are trying to arrest Kawshar and others involved in the murder, the official added.
