Heavy rainfall, landslide damage old Dhaka-Sylhet highway
Flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall damaged nearly a lane of the old Dhaka-Sylhet highway last night.
The damaged portion of the highway is at Ramganga tea garden area beside Shatchhari National Park of Habiganj’sChunarughat upazila has been marked with a red sign to alert people who are using the road, said Moinuddin Iqbal, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of the district.
Heavy rainfall and landslides are causing the damage and link to the highway at this point might get snapped anytime, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Johirul Islam, executive engineer of Habiganj Roads and Highways Department.
If the Roads and Highways Department to not take steps to protect the highway by today (Sunday), upazila authority will take steps, UNO Iqbal said after visiting the spot.
