Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated across Bangladesh
The holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims, was celebrated across Bangladesh.
The day of this year’s Eid was decided after much deliberation on Tuesday night. Initially, the Moonsighting Committee said the Shawwal moon had not been sighted in the country. However, it held a second meeting after reassessing the information and decided to celebrate the Eid on Wednesday.
Millions of the capital's residents have left the city in the last few days to celebrate the occasion with their loved ones.
Preparations to ensure smooth Eid congregation have been completed across the country.
In Dhaka, the main congregation was held at the National Eidgah on the High Court premises at 8:30am. President Abdul Hamid joined the Eid jamaat.
Five more congregations were held at the National Mosque.
There were arrangements at the National Eidgah and the National Mosque for women to offer Eid prayers alongside men.
Across Bangladesh, Muslims held Eid congregations in Eidgahs, mosques and open spaces.
This year, the Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj and Gor-e-Shahid Boro Math in Dinajpur hosted the two largest Eid congregations.
The national flag has been hoisted atop government and non-government office buildings. The main city streets and road islands have been decorated.
Television channels and radio stations are airing special programmes on this occasion.
Special diet were served in hospitals, jails, government children homes, centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes, orphanages, vagrant welfare and destitute welfare centres.
