Home boss gets death threats

State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan and 6 notable personalities received death threats today from a militant outfit.

Al Qaeda Ansarullah Bangla Team-13 sent the letter by registered post to AK Azad Chowdhury, former Dhaka University Vice Chancellor, Amjad Ali, acting proctor of the university, told The Daily Star.

The letter was received at the former VC's Dhanmondi residence around 2:45pm added Amjad Ali, who also got the threat.

"Must you will prepare for death", the letter read, written in red ink. 

AK Azad Chowdhury, a former UGC chairman, the first on the list was stated as an "Islamic enemy"; Asaduzzaman Khan as a "traitor of Bangladesh"; Dr Abu Md. Delwar Hossain, provost of Jahurul Haque Hall of Dhaka University, as "anti-Islamic writer"; popular actress, Shomi Kaiser, as an "atheist"; Dr Akhtaruzzaman, dean of arts faculty of DU as an "Islamic enemy"; Abu Musa Md Masuduzaman as an "anti-Islamic worker" and Amjad Ali "defamer of DU".

A general diary was filed by Amjad at the Dhanmondi Police Station, said the DU proctor.

According to the letter, this is the second list of death threats by the militant group.

Earlier, on May 20 2015, the same group threatened 10 other people, including Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, with death.

The nine others were writer Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, DU professors Kaberi Gayen and Asim Sarker, prime minister's adviser HT Imam, Awami League lawmaker Tarana Halim, spokesperson of a faction of Gonojagoron Mancha Imran H Sarker, Bikash Saha, Md Iqbalur Rahim, and Paltan Sutar.
