‘I had no other options but to quit’
After forfeiting from mayoral race, an independent candidate in Dhamrai municipality in Dhaka today said he had no other way but quit.
"I had no other options," Abuds Sattar, who took part in the race with coconut tree symbol, said when our correspondent asked him the reason behind his decision.
Sattar later told that he is compelled to stay aside from the race as all of his agents were driven out from the polling stations after harassing them by ruling Awami League men.
With Sattar, so far 19 BNP, Jatiya Party and independent mayor aspirants have quit their election race bringing allegations of attacks, rigging, harassment and occupation of polling centres by the ruling party leaders and activists.
BNP nominated candidates quitted the mayoral race from Rangunai, Swandip and Raojan of Chittagong, Raipur of Laximpur, Bhoirab of Kishoreganj, Akhura of Brahmanbaria, Madhupur of Tangail and, Pangsha of Rajbari.
Jatiya Party candidates forfeited from Gobindaganj of Gaibandha, Kuakata of Patuakhali and Jamalpur.
Independent aspirants in Munshiganj, Dhamrai of Dhaka, Dewanganj of Jamalpur, Bajitpur of Kishoreganj and Akhaura of Brahmanbaria and, Islami Andolon candidates from Rangunai of Chittagong and Bhola Sadar municipality quitted the race.
