Internet slowdown likely next week
Bangladesh is likely to experience slowdown in internet connection due to repair work of its first submarine cable in Cox’s Bazar.
The repair work will be held from April 20 to May 1, leading the second submarine cable to undertake the full stress of the bandwidth.
As a result, the line will be open but may suffer reduced speed. At the user level, this might lead to experience of slower internet speed.
“Hopefully, there will not be any significant problem,” Mashiur Rahman, managing director of Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited, says.
“We will try to pass the bandwidth through the second cable,” he told The Daily Star this morning confirming the repair work schedule.
From what could be known, Bangladesh’s first submarine cable has aged and now needs frequent maintenance. Eventually, it will expire.
Now, at this stage, the company will be replacing two repeaters located in Cox’s Bazar, the landing station of the first submarine cable.
