Journo remanded for ‘torturing’ wife
A Dhaka court today placed the news editor of a private television channel on a one-day remand after he was arrested in a case filed on charges of torturing his journalist wife and demanding dowry from her.
Rakibul Islam alias Mukul, 37, the news editor of Gtv, was arrested from Segunbagicha around 2:30am, said Masud Parvez, a sub-inspector of Mirpur Model Police Station.
Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey passed the order after police produced Mukul before the court with a seven-day remand prayer.
Mukul's wife Naznin Akhter Tonni, also a senior reporter at Bangla daily Dainik Janakantha, filed the case on Thursday for torturing her and demanding dowry.
A woman named Meherun Binte Ferdous has also been made accused in the case, the police official said.
