Expatriate Bangladeshi Kamrul Islam, who appears to be the main culprit responsible for beating dead 13-year-old Rajon, confessed to his role in the killing.

Mobile phone footage from Jeddah, where he was captured by the Bangladeshi community, shows him saying that he beat up the kid. He however claimed that the boy was still alive when he left the spot.

The man, who fled Bangladesh immediately after the killing, also told a reporter of private TV television channel ntv that he used a plastic stick.

Kamrul, who was caught by the Bangladeshi community in Jeddah, was seen describing the events that led to the death of Sheikh Md Samiul Alam Rajon.

While being interviewed by a reporter from NTV, Kamrul denied killing Rajon. He said although he hit Rajon, the boy was still alive when he left.

"He was tied up by the security guard. When I arrived he was already tied and a lot of people were also already there," he said in reply to questioning.

He added that the security guard, Moyna, used to guard the shops around there.

"When I got there, I called home. My brothers told me to let the boy go, but the security guard would not. We both hit him," Kamrul said. He added that his brothers repeatedly called him and told him to let Rajon go.

When the interviewer asked Kamrul why Rajon was not given water despite asking for it, he put the blame on the security guard again, saying, "The security guard told me not to give him water."

"I don't know what else happened. When I left, the boy was still alive," Kamrul said.

When pointed out that he might be hanged for his crime, Kamrul broke down into tears and said he made a mistake.

Rajon died of brain hemorrhage and his body bore around 64 injury marks, according to an autopsy report. The video of the brutal assault on the minor boy was filmed by a laughing aide and later exposed to the social media – which sparked outrage throughout Bangladesh and abroad.

A group of brutes led by Kamrul beat the boy in Kumargaon Bus Stand area of Sylhet on the morning of July 8. His "crime", they claimed, was stealing.

Yesterday, videos surfaced on social media showing Bangladeshi community in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia catching the accused killer Kamrul Islam.

He is seen pushed and shoved on the street by several men. He was barefooted and panting. In a local Sylheti dialect he was crying out, "Oh mother! Oh mother!"

They went to the house in Al-Jamia'ah district where Kamrul was said to have been staying after returning from Bangladesh.

Later, the locals handed Kamrul over to Saudi police.
