A launch carrying around 1,000 passengers remains stuck in a hidden shoal in Meghna river since this morning.

The launch, MV Tutul, started its journey for Barisal from Chandpur early today but the vessel ran aground at Mehediganj of Barisal around 4:30am, our Chandpur correspondent reports quoting Nuruzzaman, commander of local coastguard team.

A group reserved the launch from Chandpur for going to Barisal to celebrate the Eid-ul-Azha, Nuruzzaman said.

Coastguards already started their operation and trying to locate the launch, he added.
