Lightning kills 7 in 3 districts
At least seven people were killed and three others injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Faridpur, Bogura and Manikganj today
In Faridpur, three people including a woman were killed when a lightning hit Saltha and Nagarkanda upaizlas this afternoon, our local correspondent reports.
The deceased were Hasi Begum, 45, and Bilal Matabbar, 47, of Saltha, and Imran Bapary, 22, son of Pachu Baparry of Nagarkanda’s Beel Nalia village.
Hasi Begum was a housewife while Bilal was an expatriate of Saudi Arabia and Imran a farmer, according to locals.
Yad Ali, a member of Mazardia union parishad, said a thunderbolt struck Hasi when she was cooking at her kitchen around 1:00pm, leaving her injured.
She was rushed to Saltha Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared her death, he said.
Saudi expatriate Bilal died on the spot after he was hit by a thunderbolt around 1:15pm, Yad Ali said.
He was working in the land beside his house in Bata village.
Imran was washing jute in the Kumar river while the lightning struck him around 1:30pm.
In Bogura, three people including a couple were killed and three others injured as a lightning struck Sariakandi area this afternoon, said Alam Amin, officer-in-charge of Sariakandi Police Station.
The deceased were identified as Amirul Islam, 45, and his wife Felani Khatun, 38, of Dakatmara Char village, and Sumon Mia, 32, of Char Batia village, our Bogura correspondent said.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Sariakandi Upazila Health Complex, Sajedul Islam, a physician at the hospital, told our correspondent.
In Manikganj, Mangal Chandra Sarker, a farmer, suffered injuries after a thunderbolt struck him while taking bath in a pond during rain at Mouhali village in Gheor upazila this noon.
He was rushed to Shibalaya Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the family members told our Manikganj correspondent.
