Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah today did not allow any MP to speak on point of order fearing quorum crisis in the House after the end of point of order session.

"The House used to suffer from quorum crisis as most MPs leave parliament after the end of point of order session. Due to quorum crisis, we cannot pass bills in the parliament. I cannot allow this," said the deputy speaker, who was presiding over the House session after the Maghrib Prayer.

As soon as the House went into session after the Maghrib prayer break, several treasury and opposition bench MPs stood on their feet and drew deputy speaker's attention to allow them to speak on point of order.

Fazle Rabbi, who just started proceedings of call-attention notices, requested the MPs to wait until end of all scheduled businesses.

As the MPs started pressing him, Fazle Rabbi said, "There are two important bills today for passage in the House. But I will not be able to pass those bills if I allow you to speak on point of order as there will be quorum crisis after it ends."

"I am telling this from my long experience and I hope you will agree with me," the deputy speaker added.

He assured the MPs that he will allow them to speak on point of orders after passage of the two bills.

The parliament session resumed at 5:30pm today with Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair after a 16-day recess.
