Mustafa Jabbar’s panel wins BASIS election

Mustafa Jabbar-led Digital Brigade Panel won the much hyped election of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), which was held today at the association's head office.

Ananda Computers owner Jabbar looks all set to be the next president of BASIS as his panel clinched seven of the nine posts of directors at the triennial election.

Microsoft Bangladesh's Managing Director Sonia Bashir Kabir-led panel won the rest two posts of directors of BASIS.

The newly elected directors will now choose a president, senior vice-president, vice-president, secretary general, joint secretary general and treasurer from themselves within next two-three days for 2016-19 period.

From the general category, Farhana A Rahman, a contestant from Jabbar's Digital Brigade Panel, bagged highest 185 out of the 305 votes cast during 10:00am to 5:00pm at the office of the national trade body for software and IT-enabled services in Karwan Bazar.

Mustafa Jabbar bagged 181, while M Rashidul Hassan 177, Russel T Ahmed 175, Riyad SA Hussain 165 and Mostafizur Rahman Sohel 163 votes.

Sonia Bashir Kabir, who led the Change Maker Panel, bagged 152 and Syed Almas Kabir 174 votes.

From the associate category, Uttam Kumar Pal, who also contested under Jabbar's panel, won after bagging 68 out of 107 votes.

A total of 22 candidates contested for the eight posts of director from the general category, while two from the associate category for one post.
