NZ shooting victim Faruk buried in Narayanganj
The body of Omar Faruk who along with four other Bangladeshi nationals were killed in Christchurch mosque shooting in New Zealand, was buried in Narayanganj today.
A total of 50 people were shot dead as a white supremacist shot and killed devotees at two mosques -- Al Noor and Linwood -- at Christchurch on March 15.
Faruk's body was buried at a graveyard in Rajbari 11:00am following a namaz-e-janaza at the field of Sirajuddoula Club, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting the deceased's brother-in-law Sanoar Hossain.
Faruk is the son of Late Abdur Rahman. He was the third sibling among his one brother and three sisters.
He used to work at a construction company in New Zealand, Hossain said.
He left country for New Zealand some days after he got married on December 29, 2017. His wife Sazida Zaman Niha is currently with a child.
Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy met Faruk's family members and expressed her condolences to them after the janaza, Hossain said.
Last night, two bodies of Bangladeshi citizens, who were killed in the Christchurch mosque shooing in New Zealand, arrived in Dhaka.
The other victim was Zakaria Bhuiyan of Narsingdi.
Family members and relatives of the deceased received the bodies at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:15pm, a relative of Zakaria told The Daily Star.
The body of Faruk was taken to his village home in Rajbari of Narayanganj at 1:00am, the relative said.
Meanhwhile, Sharif Sarkar, brother-in-law of Zakaria told The Daily Star that “We left for Narsingdi after receiving the body. Zakaria will be buried at his family graveyard in Joypura village under Palash upazila of Narsingdi.”
