One killed in Savar factory explosion
A young woman was killed and five other people were injured in an explosion at a sweater factory in Ashulia of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, this morning.
Deceased Rima Khatun, 20, was a worker of a local readymade garment factory in Ashulia, our Savar correspondent reports quoting Jahangir Alam, senior station officer of DEPZ fire Station.
Jahangir Alam said a wall of the tin-shed structure of Natural Sweater Village collapsed when“a gas heater machine” of the factory located in Gouripur area exploded around 7:45am.
Rima died on the spot when she was walking on an adjacent road and the wall collapsed on her, the fire service official said.
Among the injured, Jalil, 50, Aiyub Ali, 40, Mahfuza, 40, who are the workers of Natural Sweater Village, have been admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital.
An injured pedestrian was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as his condition deteriorated while another passerby was admitted to another local hospital, the official added.
