Owner held for burning trees in brick kiln

Law enforcers arrested a brickfield owner on Wednesday for baking bricks allegedly using forest trees at his kiln in Muktagachha upazila of the district.

The arrestee, Nurul Huda Sarker, 50, is owner of Murad Bricks in Banarpar area in the upazila.

Being informed that Nurul had been burning forest trees, collected from nearby Madhupur forest, at his brick kiln for long, a taskforce team, led by Muktagachha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Suborna Sarker, raided Murad Bricks and arrested Nurul.

The task force team, comprising of officials of local administration, forest department and police, also seized four trucks, loaded with gazari trees, from the brickfield premises.

Police produced Nurul before a Mymensingh court yesterday that sent him to jail, Officer in Charge of Muktagachha Police Station Mohammad Ali Mahmud said.

Meanwhile, in another drive, the same task force team seized some more gazari trees from adjacent Sharif Bricks in an abandoned condition the same day.
