Probe opened against Natore highway cops
Police have launched probe into allegations of six highway policemen smashing eggs of a vendor in Natore’s Baraigram.
Following a newspaper report, the vendor Biplab Kumar Saha was promptly contacted and his complaint received today.
Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of Police Headquarters, told The Daily Star that a formal investigation has been opened to this end.
Md Shahid Ullah, additional police superintendent of Bogura Range highway police, has been made chief of the probe body and asked to report within three days, he said.
Meanwhile, the six police personnel accused with the complaint have been closed and attached to Bogura range immediately, the AIG said.
According to the media report, a pickup van, laden with eggs, skidded off Banpara-Hatikumrul Highway in Agran Sutirpar area around 3:00am.
A team from Banpara Highway Police Outpost reached the spot around 5:00am. The vendor sought help from them, the report said quoting witnesses.
The police personnel demanded Tk 20,000 for their assistance and consequently smashed some 35,000 eggs after being denied.
