Rana Plaza: Cops told to report on arrests
A Dhaka court today directed police to report on arrest of the fugitives in the case filed over Rana Plaza collapse – the worst factory disaster in history.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Al Amin asked the officers-in-charge of the police stations concerned to submit the report before the court by March 3.
On December 21, this court issued arrest warrant against 24 absconding people accused in the Rana Plaza case and asked authorities to file a compliance report by January 27 this year.
Over 1,100 people died when multistoried Rana Plaza, housing mostly garment factories, collapsed in Savar's Ashulia – what was the worst industrial disaster in a century.
Most of the dead were garment workers who toiled day and night stitching clothes for global brands.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) submitted the charge sheet on this case on June 1, 2015 in the case filed with Savar Model Police Station.
