‘Remove Zia’s grave from JS area’

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today in parliament called upon the authorities concerned to remove Ziaur Rahman’s grave as it lies at the Jatiya Sangsad premises which is a violation of its original design.

Participating in the discussion on the proposed national budget for 2019-20 fiscal, the minister also urged to remove other structures for the same reason.

“Some structures including Zia’s grave were constructed on the Jatiya Sangsad premises going beyond the original design. There are also some other graves here. I request to remove these,” the minister said.   

Earlier in 9th and 10th parliament, several ministers and MPs made the same demand to restore the parliament to its original design made by world famous American architect Louis I Kahn.

The Jatiya Sangsad last year collected the original design in 2016, but any initiative is not visible to remove these structures yet.

Describing the government’s various activities on providing facilities to freedom fighters, the minister said his ministry has taken initiative to keep the experience of every freedom fighter in the record. The experience of every freedom fighter will be recorded for 10-20 minutes.  “The record will be preserved permanently,” he added.
