Rifat Murder: Suspect Rishan Farazi remanded
A Barguna court today placed Rishan Farazi, a key suspect in Rifat murder case, on a five-day remand.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Mohammad Sirajul Islam Gazi granted the remand prayer after law enforcers produced Rishan before the court seeking seven days’ remand for him this morning, said Humayun Kabir, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Barguna Police Station.
Rishan who was on the run was arrested from Barguna town last night.
The key suspect and his brother Rifat Farazi, both accused in the case, are nephews of Barguna District Council Chairman Delwar Hossain.
Fifteen suspects including Aysha Siddika Minni, wife of slain Rifat Sharif, have been arrested so far.
Meanwhile, another FIR named suspect, Rabbi Akand, gave a confessional statement to the same court last night.
After recording his statement, the court sent him to jail. So far, 12 accused gave confessional statements in the case.
On June 26, Rifat Sharif, a 25-year-old internet service provider, was hacked by a group of young men in broad daylight. In a video footage of the incident that went viral on social media, the victim’s wife Minni was seen screaming and trying in vain to save her husband from the assailants.
The victim’s father filed a case with Barguna Sadar Police Station accusing 12 people. The prime accused in the case, Sabbir Hossain Nayan who went by the name of Nayon Bond, was killed in a “gunfight” with police on July 2.
