At least seven people were killed and 30 were injured in separate road accidents in Munshiganj and Gazipur today.

In Munshiganj, four people including a couple died and 15 others were injured as a Mawa-bound bus of "Elish Paribahan" rammed a Dhaka-bound human hauler, locally known as Leguna on the Dhaka-Mawa highway at Nimtola of Sirajdikhan upazila around 6:00pm, reports our district correspondent.

The deceased were identified as Leguna driver Md Ershad, 35, of Srinagar's Hasara village, its passengers Rasel Mia, 30, and his wife Shima Begum of the same village and Madhuri Akhter, 18, of Sirajdikhan's Lakkhibilash village, said Md Shamsuzzaman, assistant superintended of police.

The two vehicles were seized, he said, adding that the bus driver however managed to flee the scene.

Agitated locals blocked the highway for nearly one hour and vandalised several vehicles on the road.

In Gazipur, separate road crashes left four, including a Notre Dame College student, dead today.

Jakir Hossain, who is a XI student of Notre Dame College and hailed from Brahmanbaria, was run over by a Gabtoli-bound "Bashumoti Paribahan" bus from Gazipur on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 6:30am today at Tongi College gate area, said Nazmul Haque, sub-inspector of Tongi Police Station.

He succumbed to his injuries while the locals were taking him to a nearby hospital, police said, adding that the bus driver and his assistant were detained in this connection.

In Kaliakoir upazila, an unidentified bus driver was killed and at least 15 passengers were injured in a head-on collision between two buses at Nishchintopur area on the Dhaka-Tangil highway.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to nearby clinics and hospitals.

Meanwhile, Ahsan Ullah Sarker, 55, a former union parishad member of Bhawal Mirzapur union, was killed after a truck crashed his private car at Bhabanipur Bazar on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 9:30pm yesterday, said Sub-Inspector Syed Azharul Islam of Hotatpara police out post.

Police seized the truck but the driver managed to flee the scene.
