An alleged robber was killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Sharankhola range of Sundarbans in Bagerhat this morning.

Deceased Khalil, 30, was second in-command of a robber gang locally known as "Manir Bahini", according to the officials of Rab-8. He was a resident of Patharghata upazila in Barguna.

The elite force members recovered 12 firearms and several bullets from Darjar Khal in east Sundarbans area where the "gunfight" took place, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.

On secret information that some robbers were staying at their den near Darjar Khal, Rab-8 members conducted a raid in the area to arrest them around 5:30am, Lt Col Faridul Alam, commander of Rab-8, told our Bagerhat correspondent.

Sensing presence of the elite force members, the robbers opened fire to Rab men, triggering a gunfight, Lt Col Faridul added.

"The robbers managed to flee the scene after half-an hour gunfight," he said.

Later, the law enforcers found a bullet-hit body from the spot. Later, local fishermen identified the body as Khalil.
