Rohingya siblings among 3 killed in Cox’s Bazar road crash

Three persons, including two Rohingya siblings were killed and four others were injured in a road accident involving a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a pick-up van of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar on Monday.

The incident took place around 12:45pm at Balukhali area in the upazila when the Teknaf-bound pick-up van of BGB hit the auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction, leaving the two Rohingya siblings -- Md Aiub, 17, and Md Nur, 25, -- dead on the spot and five others -- Amir Hamza, 35; Abul Hosain; Dildar Begum; Zobaer, 7; and auto-rickshaw driver Shamsul Alam, 28, -- critically injured, Sharif Hasan, a sub-inspector (SI) of Nayapara Highway Police, told our Cox's Bazar correspondent.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to Save The Children in nearby Chakmar Kul area. Later they were shifted to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where Shamsul succumbed to his injuries, the official also said.

The deceased Rohingya siblings were sons of Amir Hamza, a resident of Nayapara Shalbagan Rohingya Camp, who also got injured in the incident.

The auto-rickshaw involved in the accident has been kept in police custody, SI Sharif Hasan said, adding that legal steps in this connection would be taken after investigation.
