Saudi court ‘okays deportation of Kamrul’
The government will bring back Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in the teenage boy Rajon murder case, within two weeks as the Royal court of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has approved his deportation.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam confirmed it in a Facebook post in his verified official page.
"Saudi Royal court approved deportation of Kamrul. They have already issued a letter to Interpol. Few other paper works should not take more than two weeks," he wrote.
Earlier, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque told reporters that Kamrul will be brought back home from Saudi Arabia soon with the help of the Interpol.
The Saudi interior ministry earlier approved the extradition of Kamrul to Bangladesh.
On July 8, 13-year-old boy Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in Sadar upazila, was brutally tortured to death over a theft at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city.
Kamrul Islam was the prime accused in a case filed over the murder. Kamrul fled to Saudi Arabia soon after the murder.
He was identified by some expatriate Bangladeshis in Jeddah on July 13 and caught and handed him over to the Bangladesh consulate in Jeddah from where Saudi Police took him into their custody.
Bangladesh has been making diplomatic efforts to get Kamrul extradited to face the trial.
