SC defers bar council polls till Aug 26

The Supreme Court today deferred the Bangladesh Bar Council election until August 26 as the authorities sought more time to update the voter list.

In response to a petition filed by the council authorities, the four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha deferred the date for the second time and asked the authorities to publish the voter list by July 30.

Earlier on May 28, the SC fixed August 13 for holding the election and also asked the authorities to publish voter list by July 12.

In the petition, the authorities said they will not be able to publish the list by July 12 since they could not collect the names of voters of all the district-level bar councils.
