SC upholds Fakhrul’s bail order, no bar to release
The Supreme Court today upheld the High Court order that had granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in three cases paving way for him to walk out of jail.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed "no order" on three government petitions seeking stay on the HC bail order.
Fakhrul's lawyer Sabir Hossain Leon told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar to his client's release from jail following the SC order.
On November 22, the HC granted bail for three months to Fakhrul in the three arson and vandalism cases on medical ground.
Later, the government filed three separate petitions with the SC seeking stay on the HC order.
On November 3, a Dhaka court sent Fakhrul to jail in the cases filed on January 4, 5 and 6 with Paltan Police Station after he surrendered before it as per Supreme Court's November 2 order.
