Shibir man beaten up by Jessore ‘college students’ dies

An Islami Chhatra Shibir activist, who was injured in an attack allegedly by some students at MM College in Jessore yesterday, succumbed nearly six hours after the incident that left another Shibir man dead.

Kamrul Hasan, 22, son of Mohammad Ali of Chhotokhudra village in Bagharpara upazila, died around 12:30am today on the ferry at Daulatdiya ghat in Rajbari district while he was on his way to be shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Sikder Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Jessore Kotwali Police Station.

Kamrul was a third year student of economics department at MM College in Jessore town, Benapole correspondent reports quoting the OC.

Another Shibir man, Habibullah, 22, was beaten to death and two others including Kamrul were injured when they came under attack by the students yesterday.

Soon after the incident, police filed two cases with Kotwali Police Station.

Jessore Shibir leaders blamed Bangladesh Chhatra League men for the attack.

Anwar Hossain Bipul, general secretary of Jessore BCL, however said none from his organisation was involved in the attack.

Yesterday, the OC said some BCL activists of the college interrogated a few Shibir men on information that a secret meeting of the organisation was taking place near the college. They gave them a good beating afterwards, he added.
