Somoy Prakashan publisher gets death threat
A day into the killing of Jagriti Prokashani owner, Somoy Prakashan publisher Farid Ahmed today received threat on his life through short message service (SMS).
The threat came around 9:48am from the mobile number – 01721425008, the publisher told The Daily Star.
The message reads – "You have published many books of atheists, you have sinned. Be prepared for death! – Al-Ahrar, UK."("Nastikder onek boi chepecho tumi, tomar onek paap. Mrityur jonyo prostut how!- Al-Ahrar, UK")
The publisher is yet to file any general diary with police.
He, however, said the officer-in-charge of Sutrapur Police Station has called him after hearing the matter. Police also visited his office at Sutrapur but he was not present there, Bangla daily Prothom Alo adds.
The threat came a day into the synchronised attacks on publishers of slain secularist writer-blogger Avijit Roy.
Unknown assailants hacked to death Faisal Arefin Dipan of Jagriti Prokashani at Aziz supermarket in Shahbagh and critically injured Shuddhoswar's Ahmedur Rashid Tutul and two bloggers Ranadipam Basu and Tareque Rahim in the capital's Lalmatia area yesterday.
