Stop recruitment ahead of Dhaka city polls, BNP tells govt
BNP today demanded that the government should stop all recruitment, allocation of shops and development projects in the two city corporation areas of Dhaka before the April 28 polls.
According to the rules, no recruitment or development activities can be taken place after announcement of the polls schedule, BNP International Affairs Secretary Asaduzzaman Ripon said.
But the two city corporations in Dhaka are not following this, the BNP leader said at a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office.
"Process is going on to give appointment to 109 people in the two city corporations violating the rule. Because the government thinks it [Awami League-backed mayoral and councilor candidates] will face huge defeat on April 28 [polls date in Dhaka South and Dhaka North city corporations and Chittagong] as people will not vote them," said Ripon, who is also contesting for DSCC mayoral post.
