‘Those behind deaths in mob beating will be punished’

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said those who are behind the recent incidents of deaths in mob beatings over rumour of child kidnapping will be brought to the book.

“The people who did not want Padma bridge, who said our government cannot build it, are spreading the rumour that child sacrifice is needed for this construction,” the minister said while talking to journalists at his office in Dhaka today.

“All the deaths caused by mob beating are murders, and the participants in the incidents are criminals. These murderers will be brought to justice,” he also said. 

All Awami League (AL) leaders and members have been instructed to prevent such incidents from occurring and hand over those who are spreading this rumour and taking law in their own hands to police, Hasan Mahmud told journalists.

None of the victims of these mob beating incidents has been proven to be real “child abductors,” the minister also said.

Government has taken steps to raise public awareness in this regard through television, radio and other media, requesting people not to believe in the rumours, he added.
