Those involved in gang-rape won’t be spared: Quader
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said no one will be spared whoever be the culprits involved in the incident of gang-rape of a woman in Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali.
"I've heard about the incident. It didn't take place in my constituency but in Noakhali. However, such an incident is not acceptable. The culprit must be punished. No one of those who're guilty will be spared," he said.
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after a meeting with Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Harsh Vardhan Shringla at the secretariat.
"Already, I talked to the inspector general of police. The deputy inspector general of police (DIG) also visited the spot. The government will take a strong stance against the culprits over this incident," he added.
Earlier in the day, police have claimed arrest of the prime accused and another over the gang rape of the woman in Charjubli area of Noakhali's Subarnachar upazila over election row.
With these, the total number of arrestees in this case, what has sparked national outrage, stands at three – all of who are named in the charges.
According to the case filed Monday, Salauddin, a neighbour of the complainant, went to his house and called his name.
As the complainant's wife opened the door, the accused forcibly entered the house and started beating him and his wife as a sequel to the previous enmity, it said.
At one stage, the accused tied hands and legs of the complainant and his children, and gagged them. Then they took his wife to a nearby pondside and gang-raped her, mentioned the statement.
Before leaving, the accused vandalised the tin fence of the complainant's house.
