Brahmanbaria train crash victims identified

Sixteen people, who were killed in a collision between two trains in Brahmanbaria’s Kasba upazila early today, have been identified.

They are: Jaheda Khatun, 30, of Moulvibazar; Mujibur Rahman, 55, and his wife Kulsum Begum, 45, of Chandpur, Al Amin, 30, Sohamoni, 3, Adiba, 2, of Baniachang in Habiganj; Ali Mohammad Yusuf, 32, of Anwarpur of Habiganj; Yeasin Arafat, 10, of Bolla village of Habiganj; Ripon Mia, 25, of Habiganj Sadar upazila; Sujon Ahmed, 24, and Peara Begum, 32, of Chunarughat of Habiganj; Farzana Akhter, 15, of Uttar Balia of Chandpur; Kakoli, 20, and Marium, 4, of Hyamchar of Chandpur, Robi Harijan, 23, of Noakhali and Amatun Begum, 40, of Shariatpur.

Of the victims, 10 died on the spot while two in Brahmanbaria General Hospital, three at Kasba Upazila Health Complex and another at Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

The 10 bodies were kept at a temporary camp of Bayek Government Primary School near the spot where a train collided with another one.

The district administration handed over the bodies of eight victims to the families for burial without performing any autopsy.  

Meanwhile, of the injured, 43 were admitted to Brahmanbaria General Hospital while 13 to Cumilla Medical College Hospital, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

 At least 16 people were killed and 25 injured as an intercity express crashed into another one at Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria early today.

Dhaka-bound Turna Nishita Express from Chattogram rammed Chattogram-bound Udayan Express from Sylhet at Mondobhag Railway Station around 3:00am, said police at Akhaura Railway Junction.
