UNDP to give $10m for remote communities
UNDP has approved US $10 million fund for the development of Bangladesh’s vulnerable communities of small islands and charlands islands.
The allocation is for a joint project of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Changeand UNDP, said a press release issued today.
The allocation was made at a board meeting of the Adaptation Fund held in Bonn, Germany last month, the press release of UNDP says.
Bangladesh, despite being one of the most climate change vulnerable country, is receiving the fund for the first time, it added.
"Despite a very full agenda, it was great to see the progress in new projects funded to benefit vulnerable communities across a variety of adaptation sectors including adaptation in small islands in Bangladesh, " said the Fund’s Manager MikkoOllikainen.
UNDP will continue to support Bangladesh in enhancing resilience of climate vulnerable communities,SudiptoMukerjee, UNDP Resident Representative in Bangladesh, said.
