Villagers bar outsiders from entering their locality in Chattogram
Locals at different parts of Hathazari upazila are placing logs and placards with warning messages, and digging holes in the middle of the roads so that outsiders are unable to enter their villages, in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus.
Such blockades were seen at seven points of Hathazari upazila, including Chikondi union, Rongipara village and Rail Station area.
On information, local administration has removed the blockades today.
Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ruhul Amin said people of several parts of Hathazari have installed bamboo stick gates and dug holes in the middle of the roads in bids to restrict people's movement.
"We intervened and asked them not to do such a thing, as people would not be able to commute in the case of an emergency."
The UNO said he encouraged people to stay at home and follow hygiene precautions instead.
