‘Wasa water completely drinkable’
Water supplied by Wasa in the capital is cent percent drinkable, Managing Director of Dhaka Wasa said after rejecting a research report published by Transparency International Bangladesh.
MD Taksim A Khan, MD of Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa), said this at a press briefing at Dhaka Reporter’s Unity, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.
TIB on April 17 alleged that about 35 percent service seekers complain of poor-quality water in Dhaka throughout the year.
The way TIB conducted this survey was “one-sided and motivated”, Taksim was quoted as saying by Prothom Alo.
The research was not professional, the daily quoted Taksim as saying.
WHAT DID THE TIB REPORT FURTHER SAY?
TIB said nearly 45 percent service seekers in the capital don’t get the desired amount of water from Dhaka Wasa, according to their survey.
In slum areas, the shortfall against the demand is 72 percent while it is 45.8 percent in residential areas, 35 percent in commercial areas and 19 percent in industrial areas, TIB said.
Because of this, 91 percent clients of the have to boil water before drinking, although it was already supposed to be safe for drinking, the study said.
