What's her fault? (video)
Videos showing policemen attacking a female demonstrator during protests against sexual assault in Dhaka on Mother's Day yesterday drew widespread condemnation on social media.
The female protester is seen chased by several policemen after she pelted a stone at a police armoured vehicle during the crackdown on demonstrators who were demanding justice for the sexual assault in Dhaka University during Pahela Baishakh celebrations on April 14.
In the video, the barefoot protester is seen crushed to the ground buy a policeman who was standing right beside her. She manages to stand up and tries to run away from the spot. Several policemen chase her down, one grabs her by the hair. Another lawman is seen hitting her on the head with a bamboo stick.
The screaming woman tries to hide herself behind a tree by the footpath to escape the brute police muscle. But they caught hold of her and take her away, according to the video, which was widely shared on YouTube and Facebook hours after the incident.
She along with a hundred protesters came under police attack near Officers Club on Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani in Dhaka as they tried to lay a siege to the DMP headquarters protesting the sexual assault on women during the Pahela Baishak celebration.
Law enforcers used brute force to crush the demonstration against their failures to make any arrest over the assault.
