Freedom fighter Tapan Kumar Chakraborty has expressed deep dissatisfaction over his name appearing in the Razakars' list.

"I couldn't believe it when I heard about it over a phone call," Tapan said.

He was astonished and found no meaning of staying alive when he came to know that his name is on the Razakars' list, he said at a press conference, organised at Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal’s district office in Barishal city this morning.

If a freedom fighter, who is also the son of a martyred freedom fighter, has to face such a situation then what is the meaning of his staying alive, Tapan lamented.

Tapan was recognised by the government for his gallantry in the Liberation War in Sector-5. He also receives the freedom fighter’s allowance from the government.

Tapan’s father Sudhir Kumar Chakraborty was killed by the Pakistan army in August 1971. His family receives government allowance also.

Unveiled by the Liberation War affairs ministry on Sunday, The names of at least seven freedom fighters including Tapan's name was on the list of Razakars who collaborated with the Pakistan army in carrying out mass killings and atrocities against the Bangalees during the war.

His daughter and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal Barisal unit leader Manisha Chakraborty, contested and was defeated in mayoral post in the last Barishal City Corporation election.

Terming it a faulty list, Manisha said the inclusion of his father name on the list of Razakars is politically motivated.

After the press conference, the agitated activists set a copy of the Razakars' list on fire and brought out a procession afterwards, reports our Barishal correspondent.
