Youth arrested for murdering girl after rape in Bandarban
A schoolgirl was murdered after she was allegedly raped by a suspected Rohingya youth in Ghumdhum area of Bandarban's Naikhongchari upazila, says police.
The ten-year-old girl was a class four student at a primary school in the upazila, reports our Bandarban correspondent quoting local police and her family members.
The girl went missing on Friday noon when she took the family cattle for grazing in the nearby hill area, the family member said.
Some locals found her body floating in a natural water body (creek) inside the forest, Md Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Naikhongchari Police Station, was quoted as saying.
Police recovered the body and arrested the man, suspected to be a Rohingya, from the area, the official added.
The arrestee, Md Russel, lives with his mother in the area but his father Nurul Islam lives in the Kutupalong Rohingya refugee camp.
Police further said the body of the victim had scars and bruises which they believe indicates that she was murdered after rape.
The body is being sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
