Youth's innovative solution
In an attempt to a hassle-free solution to supply water to his tenants, a youth in Chilmari upazila has invented a switch that monitors water level and automatically switches the water pump on or off.
Twenty-nine-year-old Mahabubar Rahman of Chhoto Kustari village in the upazila invented the electric auto-switch to pump water into his reverse tank and supply the water without any hassle.
A master's degree holder, Mahabub, son of late Kayser Ali of the village, runs a computer shop near Chilmari upazila parishad premises.
Mahabub now wants the tech companies to come forward so that people can get benefit from his invention, the first of its kind in the country, at a lower cost.
By setting up such an auto-switch, one can automatically pump water into the reserve tank.
When the water level goes up to a selected level the switch automatically stops the pump.
When the reserve level of the water tank reaches the lowest point the switch automatically starts the pump.
Besides, an additional pipe-line under the reserve tank ensures that dwellers can use the reserved water in absence of electricity.
“My tenants often asked me to switch on the power pump whenever the reserve tank is empty, which annoyed me a lot. In a bid to get rid of the trouble and reach a solution I started to work on it in March this year,” Mahabub said, adding that after four months of continuous efforts he finally became successful to make the auto-switch in June.
Since then, his tenants never requested him to turn on the water pump switch, he said, adding that a number of locals already requested him to make some auto-switches for them.
“I need two electric switches, an empty plastic bottle, electric wires, two screws, a small iron disc, three-inch iron bars, plastic tap, plastic thread and gum to make an auto-switch, he said adding that it cost him around Tk 250.
“I believe loss of reserved water can be controlled through adopting my technology and I can develop it if any organisation extends cooperation,” Mahabub said.
