9 zebras rescued from cowshed in Jessore
Detectives today rescued nine zebras from a cowshed in Sharsha upazila of Jessore.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted a drive in Satmail Bazar area around 6:00 am and rescued 10 zebras from the cowshed of one Nur Hossain Tutu, said Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of DB police in Jessore.
Later, one of the zebras died, the DB official told our Benapole correspondent.
The zebras were brought from Africa in cartons and kept in the cowshed to smuggle them to India, he said.
Later, the zebras were taken to the districts police lines, said Salauddin Shikder, additional superintendent of police in Jessore. “The zebras would be handed over to the Forest Department soon.”
None was arrested in this connection till 7:15 pm.
