NRC India’s internal issue: Home minister

Terming the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam state as an internal matter of India, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today expressed his unwillingness to make any comment over the issue.

“We will come up with our reaction if they (India) want to know anything about Assam’s National Register of Citizens,” Kamal said this while addressing a programme at Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur this noon.

The home minister categorically claimed that no people intruded into India after the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

“People intruded into Bangladesh from India, at the same time many people also entered India from Bangladesh. And thus, we have nothing to be worried about it,” the home minister said.   

Yesterday, India made public the final list of Assam’s National Register of Citizens (NRC), excluding names of about 19.07 lakh people.
