Nusrat murder verdict a milestone: AG

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today said the verdict delivered in Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case is a “milestone”.

“Necessary steps will be taken to place the appeal and death references at the High Court bench concerned,” he told reporters at his office, expressing satisfaction with the verdict.

A tribunal in Feni sentenced 16 people to death for their roles in killing Nusrat. Now the subordinate court will send the death reference copy to the High Court for approval.

Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 on the roof of a madrasa she attended, allegedly by people loyal to principal Sirajuddoula whom she had accused of sexually harassing her.

 She succumbed to her injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The trial proceedings in the case were finished within seven months.
