Nusrat murder: HC may receive death references today
An official of a Feni court started for High Court this afternoon to hand over the death references of all the 16 convicts in Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case.
Shamsuddin, a stenograph of Feni Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, started for the HC in capital Dhaka along with the 2327-page case dockets wrapped in red cloth.
Shamsuddin left the court premises with a car in police protection around 1:30pm, reports a correspondent from Feni.
Shamsuddin is expecting to hand over the death reference by evening, he said while talking to the correspondent.
On October 24, the court awarded death penalty to 16 people for their roles in murdering the madrasa student.
The convicts are – madrasa principal SM Sirajuddoula, ex-Awami League upazila unit president Ruhul Amin, Shahadat Hossain Shamim, Nur Uddin, Imran Hossain Mamun, Hafez Abdul Quader, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Councillor Maksud Alam alias Moksud, Kamrunnahar Moni, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Zobair, Javed, Umme Sultana Popy, Mohiuddin Shakil, Mohammad Shamim, Abdur Rahim Sharif and Absar Uddin.
Sonagazi madrasa student Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 on the roof of the educational institution, allegedly by people loyal to Sirajuddoula whom she had accused of sexually harassing her.
She succumbed to her injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed at Sonagazi Police Station on April 8. Police pressed charges in the court against 16 people on May 29.
