Order to deploy cops at mango orchards remains in force
The High Court order for deploying policemen at mango orchards in Rajshahi region will remain effective.
The order remains in force as the Supreme Court (SC) today refused to interfere in the directive delivered by the High Court.
On April 9, the High Court directed the government to deploy police at the mango orchards in Rajshahi region to prevent spraying of toxic chemicals on mangoes.
The government yesterday filed a petition seeking a stay on the HC directive and Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice Md Nuruzzaman today refused to pass any order on the petition.
Then, Deputy Attorney General ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar withdrew the petition from the Appellate Division.
WHAT WERE THE HC DIRECTIVES?
The divisional commissioner of Rajshahi and the deputy inspector general of police (Rajshahi range) have been asked to deploy police at the mango orchards in Rajshahi region in seven days.
The HC also ordered the authorities concerned to monitor the storehouses of mangoes and other fruits in Dhaka with surveillance teams so that harmful chemicals could not be sprayed on fruits.
