‘Padma Bridge construction brightened country’s image globally’
Law Minister Anisul Huq today said the image of Bangladesh has been brightened to the world after the government decided to construct the Padma Bridge with its own funding.
“The world has started to believe that Bangladesh can do what it wants. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has given this message to the world by constructing the Padma Bridge by our own resources,” he said.
He was speaking as chief guest at a meeting organised by the law ministry on the occasion of the National Mourning Day on the premises of the office of Inspector General of Registration (IGR) in Dhaka.
Minister Anisul Huq said Bangladesh is not a bottomless basket now, as it has achieved many developments and established itself to a dignified position.
When the World Bank changed its decision to fund Bangladesh for construction of the Padma Bridge, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced her decision to construct the bridge by our own fund, he said.
Many civil-society members were laughing after the PM announced the decision, Anisul said.
The law minister said the scenario has changed as the Padma Bridge is going be to constructed by the government’s own fund and the dream is coming true.
Anisul Huq said a law titled as “Indemnity Ordinance” had been formulated to stop the trial of the offences of killings including that of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members
The civil society members, who are now alleging of violation of human rights, had not demanded cancellation of the Indemnity Ordinance for 21 years, he said.
There are few persons among them who got nomination from symbol “Boat” for contesting for the post of the president, the law minister said.
Law and Justice Secretary ASSM Zahirul Haque Dulal presided over the meeting.
Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Mohammad Shahidul Haque, IGR Khan Md Abdul Mannan, Supreme Court Registrar General Dr Md Zakir Hossain and Additional Law Secretaries Nasrin Begum and Salma Binte Kadir also spoke at the programme.
