Padma capsize: 1 body recovered, 2 still missing
The body of a woman was found from Padma river today following yesterday’s speedboat capsize. Two more including a schoolgirl are still missing.
Locals found the body of Bakela Begum, 41, wife of Rouf Shikdar from Faridpur, around 9:45am, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
Meanwhile, schoolgirl Tahmina Akhter, 12, still remains missing till the report was filed at 6:30pm today, said Sub-Inspector Nazmul Islam of Mawa Naval police outpost.
Rescue operation ended for today before dusk and will resume tomorrow, he added.
During a storm around 3:00pm yesterday, a Majhikandi-bound speedboat, carrying 18 passengers, overturned in Shimulia-Kathalbari route in the river in the district’s Louhajong upazila.
Earlier, a 10-year-old boy, Labib Halder, son of Joynal Halder of Shariatpur district succumbed to his injuries in Dhaka yesterday evening after the capsize, said Md Zayedul Alam, superintendent of police in Munshiganj.
Most of the passengers managed to swim ashore.
