PM to visit Sunamganj haors Apr 30

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Sunamganj haor areas on April 30 in the backdrop of flash floods, crop and livestock loss in the region.

Sunamganj district Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Rafiqul Islam confirmed the schedule of the premier to The Daily Star this afternoon.

An unusually early flash flood struck the haor areas late last month. Three weeks after the flash flood, fishes, several thousand ducks, frogs and leeches started dying in the haors of Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Netrakona and Mymensingh districts.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agricultural Extension estimated a crop loss of six lakh tonnes with Boro on two lakh hectares gone under water.
