Cops sue 400 unknown people over N’ganj clash
Narayanganj police have filed a case against 400 to 500 unknown people eight days after a clash took place between supporters of local Awami League (AL) lawmaker Shamim Osman and followers of the city corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy over eviction of street hawkers.
Joynal Abedin, inspector (operation) of Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station filed the case last night, Abdur Razzak, officer-in-charge of the police station, told our local correspondent today.
At least 50 people including Ivy were injured as supporters of MP Shamim Osman attacked the mayor and her followers during the clash on Bangabandhu Road in Narayanganj's Chashara on January 16.
Police on Wednesday refused to record an attempted murder case against some local leaders and activists of AL and its front organisations in connection with the January 16 attack on Narayanganj city Mayor Ivy.
However, police recorded a general diary in this regard.
GMA Sattar, law affairs officer of the city corporation, went to the local police station to file the case. As police refused to record it, he lodged the GD against nine leaders and activists of AL and its front organisations and around 1,000 unnamed people.
