Qatar is set to recruit three lakh workers from Bangladesh for different sectors in the next three years, the Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment minister said today.

“Qatar needs a huge pool of skilled and unskilled workers for construction projects ahead of the Football World Cup 2022 and the country’s prime minister has promised to hire our people in large numbers,” Nurul Islam said at a press conference at Prabasi Kalyan Bhaban in the capital’s Eskaton area.

Qatar encouraged interested Bangladeshis to get training for the job recruitment, the minister said.

Nurul Islam has also said the recruiting agencies must not exploit job seekers by charging large sums of money from migrant workers.

The minister held the press conference a day after he returned from a three-day tour to Qatar.

Around four lakh Bangladeshi migrant workers are employed at different sectors in Qatar.
