Rape accused killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’
The fugitive accused of a rape case was reportedly killed in a gunfight with Rab at Chokoria upazila in Cox’s Bazar early today.
Deceased Anwar Hossain Anu, 58, Napitkhali village, was an accused of a case filed with Chokoria Police Station for “raping” a class IV girl of the same village on February 11, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting Rab.
Acting on tip-off, a Rab team launched a drive at the house of Anu around 4:00am to arrest him as he went into hiding after the rape incident, said Major Ruhul Amin, company commander of Rab’s Cox’s Bazar camp.
“Sensing their presence, Anu and his cohorts opened fire. The Rab team fired back,” he said.
Anu was found lying on the spot after the “gunfight” and rushed to Chokoria Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, added the Rab official.
The elite force members recovered one shooter gun, three bullets and two bullet shells from the spot.
