11 killed in Sylhet, Barguna road crashes
At least 11 people were killed in two separate road accidents in Sylhet and Barguna districts today.
In Sylhet, four people were killed and 3 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Ilashpur area under Osmaninagar upazila of the district today.
The identity of deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident took place around 4:00pm when a Sylhet-bound truck rammed into a Dhaka-bound microbus on the highway, leaving all the four passengers of the microbus dead on the spot, reports our local correspondent.
The injured were taken to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College, said Mohammad Ali Mahmud, officer in-charge of Osmani Nagar Police Station.
The bodies of the deceased were also kept at the hospital, the OC added.
In Barguna, seven people were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident on Patuakhali-Kuakata highway in Amtali upazila of the district today.
The accident occurred when a Patuakhali-bound passenger bus and a three-wheeler, locally known as Mahindra, had a head-on collision in Manikjuri bus stand area around 11:00am, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting police.
All the deceased were passengers of the three-wheeler, Alauddin Milon, officer-in-charge of Amtali Police Station, told our local correspondent.
Four of the deceased have been identified as Shahanaz Begum, 35, a teacher of Tarikata Govt Primary School of Amtali, Sanu Hawlader, 40, and Chan Mia, 55, both hailing from Borobogi village under Taltali upazila, and Abu Hanif, 35, driver of the Mahindra, the OC said.
The injured were rushed to Amtali upazila health complex for treatment.
Police seized the bus while the driver managed to flee from the scene, the police official added.
